James Diem Bio

Thanks for visiting my website. I'm a full time artist and educator working and living in the hills outside Hood River Oregon. I am primarily a potter but like many artists, am drawn to other materials. Cross pollination from photography and metals often results in new ideas in color and textures for my clay work. Spending a couple days outside my primary media (especially if its "in the field" shooting rust and junk yards) feels like a vacation. Working with many different materials has opened up new possibilities for me in mixed media, as you can see in the urn and teapot links.

I also teach art residences in local school districts through an excellent local non profit, Columbia Gorge Arts in Education and volunteer at our local art center Columbia Center for the Arts (another excellent local non profit). If you find yourself in the beautiful Columbia River Gorge, look me up! I am in my studio most days throwing pots. I gladly open my studio by appointment.
